Yes you read it right. For the 69th Miss Universe competition, 20 ladies will get through the first cut based on judges' scores in the preliminaries and MUO's decision. Another 1 spot will be determined via voting. This was confirmed by the pageant page, @missuupdates, in an Instagram post.
According to the post, the contestants are required to send videos where they ask people to vote for them. They will all have the same script for that video, the only difference being their own country and name. Voting will happen on the MU app through choicely.
Some other videos that the girls were required to send to MUO are Mother’s Day videos & Earth Day videos.
This news was also confirmed by Miss Universe Brazil 2020 Julia Gama during an IG live session with Dany Di Giacomo, a Venezuelan TV host and actress.

The 69th MISS UNIVERSE® competition will air from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood on Sunday, May 16, 2021. The competition will broadcast LIVE around the world from 8:00 to 11:00 PM ET.
