Miss Myanmar Thuzar Wint Lwin disputes reports receiving asylum in the US

It's fake news. Miss Universe Myanmar 2020 Thuzar Wint Lwin denies reports that she has received asylum in the US.

According to some pageant pages, the Miss Universe 2020 Top 21 finalists has received asylum protection in the United States where she will live and work as a model in New York City.

In a screenshot shared by pageant website "Pageantology 101", she disputed this report.

"Hello, I was hoping you could change the caption for the post since it's not true," she said.

"I have not received the asylum and I don't plan to. I was there for the event that the Chin Community has kindly invited me for," she added.

Lwin has been invited recently in an event organized by Chin Community of Indiana.

The beauty queen openly criticizes her country’s military coup and support the pro-democracy movement.

In an article by New York Times, Lwin shared that she had difficulty going out of her country just to compete in Miss Universe held at Miami, Florida.

She saw reports of well-known people being detained as they tried to leave the country, so she decided to wear a hoodie and glasses to keep from being recognized at the Yangon airport. “I had to pass through immigration and I was so scared,” she said in an interview from Florida.

During the 69th Miss Universe national costume competition, she walked to the front of the stage and held up a sign saying, “Pray for Myanmar.”
