FULL TRANSCRIPT: Kisses Delavin's MUPH 2021 Preliminary Q&A Performance

Screengrab: KTX.PH

The 28 official candidates of Miss Universe Philippines 2021 has survived one of the difficult parts of the competition, the preliminary Q&A round.

The preliminary interview was streamed live on Friday, September 24 on KTX.

This portion of the pageant tested the wit and intelligence of the contestants and will determine who will make it in the Top 16.

Each delegate were asked five questions. Four of them came from MUPh Organization and one question from Lazada. The delegates had 30 seconds to answer each question until they hear the bell.

One of the delegates who stood out in the competition is Miss Masbate, Kisses Delavin.

Here is the full transcript of her Q&A performance:

Question 1: What's the most important lesson you learned in the past week?

Kisses: "I think it's embracing the moment, really enjoying the moment for what it is like a song. I think I met so many people the past week that I really treasure. Of course it's on my dream, the Miss Universe crown, but I also just embrace the moment, and that's one of the best parts."

Question 2: If beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, in whose eyes are you beautiful?

Kisses: "In my own eyes. I always make sure that everyday when I go out, when I'm doing my own make-up that my standard of beauty is myself. We all have our preferences on what's beautiful but I think that I am beautiful because I am me. I think if I can show a girl that she can feel like that as well, that something that I would be proud of for the rest of my life."

Question 3: If we truly learn from our mistakes, would you advise a young person to keep making them?

Kisses: "Absolutely! I think when I was 17 years old I have made so many mistakes in my life. Just thinking about them right now makes me nervous but I think all those mistakes like not trusting myself enough to love someone. All those mistakes will make me take more risks in the future and now. Which is why I always take more risk now because I used not to."

Question 4: If you have the power to do ONE of the following: Eliminate poverty and hunger, A government with no graft & corruption or solve all environmental problems, which would you choose?

Kisses: "I think the closest thing to my heart is eliminating hunger because coming from Masbate, there are a lot of places out there that really need, children who need nourishment. And I think that's one of the biggest things that I need to focus on as a privilege person. I am not ashamed of my privilege but I think that I should do more in my whole life and especially as a miracle baby."

Question 5: If you were to add cart one item to buy on Lazada to send to all Filipinas to help inspire them during this time, what would it be and why?

Kisses: "I think it's a rosary because that's what my mother gave me when I went into the pageant. My mother was nervous about me coming into a pageant because she thinks that I always need here, but I always do need her. But I also have the strength that wherever I go, I can do my best because the rosary is with me."

@ddsofpageantry

grabe sila kay @steffiaberasturi . andaming sinabi, may nega comments din sila sa iba pero di ganto. ##missuniverse ##steffiaberasturi ##fyp

Ang Ashtie Nights Community ay kinabibilangan nina Bessie Besana, Candy Drilon-Dalman, Miguel Daranjilla, Nigel Cornel at Moks Gonzales.

Ashties Miguel Daranjilla, Nigel Cornel, Candy Drilon-Dalman, Bessie Besana, and Moks Gonzales, collectively known as The Korona Group and founders of The Ashtie Nights Community.

Tila hindi sang-ayon si Moks Gonzales na 'Latina slayer' si Aberasturi.

"...[I read] comments from her fans na 'Latina slayer, Latina slayer'. Pero may natalo naba siyang Latina?" aniya.

Nakukulangan naman si Candy ng 'oomph factor' sa dalaga.

"[I don't] see a little 'oomph' from her more than what we were seeing before. My issue with her I find her too OA at times when she speaks. Authenticity is also something that Miss Universe Organization looks for. So I just wanna see that."

Nag-komento naman si Bessie sa isang photo ni Steffi. Aniya, "I didn't really like this photo parang trying hard sa akin 'yung looks and I'm sure it's not Steffi. It might be the people that might have work for that specific shoot."

Dagdag pa ni Moks, "Steffi, kalma lang. You don't have to try so hard kasi maganda ka na eh. Hindi ko kilala kung sino si Steffi. Parang puro pasabog lang at pasabog. The thing for me 'yung  entrepreneurship rather than eh brand mo yung sarili mo as 'Queendera'."

"Naging concern is that si Catriona (Gray) 'di tayo nag-complain because we haven't seen it before. Now that we've seen it from Catriona, hindi na siya novelty," dagdag pa ni Gonzales.

Hindi naman napigilan ng mga fans ni Steffi na umalma sa mga komento ng Ashties.

"Constructive criticism is helpful, but kapag may halong lait, negative bias and very subjective na ung feedback, inggit and threatened na yan," sabi ng isang isang netizen.

"Never dictate a candidate how to show herself, it's not your thing! If she feel confident and happy she feel empowered doing those, then let them."

"Ahem. Matatanggap ko pa kung constructive criticism, but deym? Lait na ginagawa niyo. Threatened kayo sa Bisaya kolz?

"Mga dilawan 'yan for sure. Haha."

"Sila yung mga MARITES na nakabase sa looks at pananalita ng isang tao. Pero 100% di sila sure kung ganito o ganun ba  talaga tinutukoy nila!."

Tila may sagot naman si Steffi sa pageant analysis ng Ashties.

May pinost sa IG story ang Cebuana beauty na may nakasulat na quote, "Do not put out your fire because someone else doesn't understand your flame."

Mukha ding unbothered si Cathy Drilon. Nag-post pa ito sa Facebook group ng Ashtie Nights Community.

"Guys don't worry, kalmado kami. Narealize ko lang na sponsor nga pala ang company ko diyan. Do I really want to sponsor a candidate that has so much toxic supporters for 1 whole year?" sulat ni Drilon sa kanilang Facebook group.

"Honestly, as a sponsor of MUPh, I am absolutely turned off by the rabid supporters of Steffi," dagdag pa niya.

Miss Universe Philippines to Release World's First Beauty Pageant NFTs

PRESS RELEASE

NFTs Gaining Ground with Big-Name Supporters

Manila, Philippines (September 20, 2021) — RedFOX Labs, prolific Southeast Asian venture builder, has joined forces with Miss Universe Philippines in making history as the world's first-ever beauty pageant to drop an NFT collection.

The Miss Universe-Philippines NFT collection will be released on September 24, 2021 and will be available for purchase using the RFOX token via MetaMask or Uniswap.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are digital assets that can represent a wide variety of real-world concepts such as ownership over one-of-a-kind art, videos, in-game items, and other collectibles.

By partnering with Miss Universe-Philippines, RedFOX Labs has made it possible for fans to own unique digital collectibles of their favorite candidates in the form of NFT cards, which showcase the top 30 beauty queens in their glory.

These prized collector’s items have a limited supply of 9,900 units in total, which consists of 4 unique NFTs for each of the top 30 candidates that come in various degrees of rarity including Common (6000 units), Uncommon (2700 units), Rare (900 units), and Mythic (300 units.). These NFT cards can be stored, traded, and sold just like physical assets, which allows owners to earn from their proceeds.

In the world of emerging technology and digital assets, this is bringing the future of the digital economy closer to every Filipino in an accessible and relatable way.

This is also a welcome addition to the growing global adoption of NFTs, which, in recent times, have been dominated by celebrities and household names minting their own non-fungible tokens.

In just a span of a few short months, NFTs went from being the stuff of sci-fi dreams to having real people making, selling, and buying them at eye-watering amounts.

Several notable names have also jumped in on the NFT craze by creating and releasing their own NFT collections. Aside from empowering creators to earn staggering amounts from the proceeds of their sales, NFTs have also paved another way for people to easily raise funds for charities and other advocacies.

Paris Hilton, the original queen and trendsetter of selfies and Y2K bling, is always ahead of the game and has been one of the first artists to embrace NFTs and their potential. Praising NFTs for democratizing art, Hilton's first foray started last year when she auctioned a digital painting of her cat for $17,000 and donated the proceeds to charity.

Another pop culture icon who is no stranger to the NFT space is "Mean Girls" star Lindsay Lohan, who minted and auctioned her first-ever NFT called "Lindsay Lightning Lohan" for $50,000 and donated the proceeds to charities that accept Bitcoin.

Popular talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has made her mark in the space by auctioning her first NFT, consisting of her own explanation of the asset on her show and an actual drawing of a cat she made. The collection netted DeGeneres $33,495, which she donated to food-relief organization World Central Kitchen.

As one of the world's most iconic rappers and enduring artists of his time, Snoop Dogg's story has the perfect mix of grit and talent to make for an NFT worth collecting. And this he did with his NFT collection called "A Journey with the Dogg", which he auctioned off. Parts of the proceeds were donated to emerging youth artists and Snoop's Youth Football League.

Lastly, if there’s one thing that Miss Philippines shares with legendary boxer and Philippine politician Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, there’s no need to look further than NFTs.

The incumbent senator has recently released his own NFT collection, with artist Rikognition explaining that the piece is inspired by Pacquiao's career, where “a moment in time can feel both fleeting yet lasting an eternity."

As support for NFTs grows exponentially over the last few months and big names like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Manny Pacquiao put the spotlight on its potential, Redfox’s partnership with Miss Universe Philippines is just the start in paving the way for people, regardless of background, to experience firsthand what NFTs can do for them.

Miss Universe Philippines to Unveil the World's First-Ever Beauty Pageant NFT Collection

Press Release

Manila, Philippines — The Miss Universe Philippines 2021 is making its mark as the latest brand and the first beauty pageant in the world to ride the NFT wave. The global beauty pageant has teamed up with RedFOX Labs, a Southeast Asian blockchain venture builder, to launch the Miss Universe Philippines NFT collection.

Available on September 24, 2021 on our NFT Platform, it provides an exciting opportunity for adoring fans to buy NFT collectibles of their favorite beauty queens. But this isn't the first time a famous brand has entered the NFT space.

In fact, many luxury premium brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry are turning to NFTs to promote their lines. The fashion industry has been looking for ways to capitalize on the buzz surrounding NFTs. Louis Vuitton and several other fashion brands have launched their own NFTs.

For example, Gucci released its first official NFT in a short fashion film inspired by Aria's collection. It is to celebrate Gucci's 100th anniversary and the upcoming collaboration with Balenciaga.

Burberry also collaborated with Mythical Games on an in-game clothing NFT collection by featuring a limited-edition Blanko toy called "Sharky B." It is the first luxury brand to appear in the multiplayer party game Blankos Block Party.

Separately, Louis Vuitton initiated a mobile game where players can collect 30 free NFTs as they follow the brand's mascot Vivienne to Paris for a birthday celebration. 10 NFTs were created in a partnership with Beeple, a digital artist whose digital collage sold for USD69.3 million. Moreover, the NFTs in the game are collectibles that cannot be sold.

Overpriced's black hoodie is also part of the growing NFT one-of-a-kind asset trend. The black hoodie from Overpriced, embroidered with an expletive-laden logo in neon green graffiti font, was sold on the digital art marketplace, Blockparty, to an anonymous bidder who can now "wear" the garment in virtual settings online by scanning a code.

Another implementation of NFTs in the fashion world is collaborating with top-selling NFT artists. The famous sneaker brand RTFKT collaborated with FEWOCiOUS, one of the rising young stars in the crypto universe. They created a series of three sneakers that were accompanied by digital merchandise. More than 600 pairs were sold, with the sneakers alone accounting for USD3.1 million in sales. Winners may receive a physical copy of their sneakers, but the real value came from their limited-edition digital iterations.

The speculative market for one-of-a-kind NFTs has been booming. Blockchain NFTs are making inroads into high-fashion and premium lifestyle brands to reach new audiences, connect with customers, and grow their businesses.

Many luxury brands are taking on NFTs to create experiences for their consumers, similar to the Miss Universe Philippines NFT collection. With that said, the one-of-a-kind Miss Universe Philippines NFT collection honors the beauty pageant's essence of empowerment and grace. This coincides with other premium luxury brands that seek to renew that essence and connect directly with the fanbase.

With this partnership between RedFox Labs and Miss Universe Philippines, we are able to unlock genuine value for the fanbase to interact with the brand in an environment that celebrates beauty, art, and empowerment. Miss Universe Philippines 2021 NFTs are available to purchase with RFOX tokens. They can be bought on Uniswap and MetaMask.

She has been taking the initiative to empower the community of social entrepreneurs.

Apparently, a leader is someone who takes a lead and lives by example. JM has been more than a hundred percent committed to empower our community of social entrepreneurs. She tirelessly works for every opportunity she finds to change people’s lives by leading them to achieve their dreams and conquer their limitations that they never thought of.

As a proof of her persistence, she has been appointed as of the Generals of Team Advocate Change Club and joined The Maharlikang Pilipino Movement or also known as MAHARLIKA. 'Should a transgender woman be allowed to join beauty pageants?' Kisses Delavin responds

Screen grab from The Boy Abunda Talk Channel on Youtube

In the Part 3 of Boy Abunda's online talk show called 'The Purple Chair Interview', Miss Universe Philippines 2021 candidate Kisses Delavin has proved that she is ready to nail the preliminary Q&A round.

She was asked a series of questions to test her wit and intelligence comes pageant proper.

Should a transgender woman be allowed to join beauty pageants? She responded with ease, "If that transwoman would be able to to celebrate herself the most if she joins the Miss Universe pageant, go for it because women are multidimensional. And, if you are a transwoman and you want to win Miss Universe, put your heart into it, you will make a change."

The former PBB housemate also answered the controversial question from Bb. Pilipinas 2021- 'When is it okay to not be okay and when is it not okay to be not okay?'

"It's okay to be not okay when you need time to heal. But it's not okay to continue to be not okay when some people can benefit from you fighting to go into the deep and try to be okay no matter how hard it is so that other people, you can help other people to be okay," Delavin said.

Would you rather be influential or powerful?

"I think I would rather be influential because when you speak to someone and you're influential, you're able to make this person rise up. Most specially now in this COVID pandemic. If there is an anti-vaxxer, there is so much power if you're influential because this person will be able to be swayed into the right direction if you know how to say the right words."

On why she deserved the crown, she said, "I think I deserve the crown because I have been preparing for this my whole life. The world has prepared me for this."

"The experiences that have been given to me, the love...because I am able to give as much, so much love because I have first received that love from my mom, from my dad."

You can watch the full interview here:

Delavin is one of the 27 official candidates competing in Miss Universe Philippines 2021 pageant. The coronation night will be on September 25.

The winner will represent the country in the 70th edition of Miss Universe pageant in Israel in December.

The reigning Miss Universe Philippines is Rabiya Mateo of Iloilo City.
